Day 3 - a king or a servant?

Today's reading is another one from the prophet Isaiah, and tells not of a King that will come to save us, but of a suffering servant.  Ther sort of person we wouldn't look twice at, might even laugh at, mock, even bully, and yet this is the the very person who can save us from our sin? Really?  Yes, really!!!

Isaiah 53:1-6

The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling,
a scrubby plant in a parched field.
There was nothing attractive about him,
nothing to cause us to take a second look.
He was looked down on and passed over,
a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself,
that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.
We’re all like sheep who’ve wandered off and gotten lost.
We’ve all done our own thing, gone our own way.
And God has piled all our sins, everything we’ve done wrong,
on him, on him.

It must of been hard for people in Isaiahs time to understand exactly what he was telling them, as they hadn't got the story of Jesus to look at as well, surely it is easy for people now to see that Jesus is that servant, come to take our punishment and make us whole?
Have you accepted that Jesus died for you?  Have you accepted Christ as your Good Shepherd, or are you still a lone wandering sheep, getting lost, waiting to be found?

Take some time to think about this, if you want to chat about it and what it means for you, then please get in contact with one of the youth leaders, and we will be happy to chat and answer your questions.

And now, on to todays prize challenge.......
